Family and Food

As many of you know, my daughter has been working in Australia this summer. Happily, for her mother, she comes home in now less than two weeks. Jaclyn is a bit of a world traveler, you may recall. Last summer she worked in India and who knows what next summer will bring.

Tonight’s message made me smile. Without even “Hi Mom”, I opened Facebook to read:

“It's that time where I start looking forward to food at home. Can we do a good food meal when I get home? LOL”

And then we proceeded to plan a menu that started with brisket and just kept going.

In our house, food and family go together. Planning a meal necessarily means planning to spend time together. We have spent a lot of time around our kitchen table. Some of my favorite family memories have happened with food attached.

Does food play the same role for you?

Food has always been important to all gatherings in our family. Holidays have their traditions, which have been tweaked as family members became vegans. Planning, cooking, preparing make holiday and family times special. I cannot agree more with Nancy's sentiments I have gotten the same e-mail and it always makes me smile.

Some of our best family food-oriented memories are from when our son cooks, whether at his place or ours. And the great NYC metro area restaurants we visit from time to time ain't too shabby either.

Always. Although, lately, for my kids it's, "Can we order in sushi together?"

My favorite childhood memories are from when my mother, my grandmother & I cooked together for Jewish Holidays
