Credit Card Miles

Categories
Lifestyle

We have a Citi Bank-American Airlines credit card (see photo above) As you may have guessed, we chose it for the "miles" as our favorite destination is on the AA system.  We use it frequently enough so that the accumulated miles are not forfeited over time.

It works for us, but I wonder...are we missing out?  Are there better deals out there?  Are we too restricted?

You're never too old to learn and we're open to suggestions.  Thanks!

A colleague of mine has a special advisor who follows the offers and advises accordingly.

We put the cash back in a "vacation account" and then I try not to tap it when we fund a vacation. Another card's points fund or partially fund daughter's flights home.

That why I use Amex, I can use those points on any airline.

Chase sapphire. Best card we've ever used. All miles from all chase cards can be aggregated and then 20% off when you book through them. You pick the flights first, then they book with your points at the discount. (Also, no phone prompt service. Always a person. :)

The mileage system used to be so much better. I have a united card and it's impossible to get upgrades now. And if you get a free ticket for a million pints it costs you almost as much in taxes.

We now have a Hilton timeshare so we also have a Hilton Am Ex. here's my follow-up question to the group, can you get points etc on your firm credit card?

Amex allows you to use the points as cash when you book through them. You avoid the minimum miles needed for airplane tickets.

Stay with what got you here. Not worth the hassle. Points shmoints .Simplify your life not complicate it . Don't get caught up in this mundane circus . Buy your ticket on AA and enjoy !

So, we have accumulated a good number of miles (in excess of 500K). In addition, we book using the Amex concierge. Then, if we select one airline as primary, we get a credit of 20-30% of the points back to our card when using that airline. We had taken the whole family away and then got a 'refund' of 80,000 miles. Works for me! Neal

Rona - If the issuing company doesn't want the points, you can link your card. My son had linked his corporate Amex card to his personal and he thanked me a year later! (There may be a set-up charge from Amex. )
