The Unsolicited Call

I had a feeling that it might be a phishing call, but the caller ID said “Floral Park” and I have a client in Floral Park, so I answered.
Perhaps I should have hung up when a voice I didn't recognize asked to speak to Benjamin. When I asked who's calling, the man answered “Audi lease protection”.
“What’s this about.” I asked.
“Your 2012 Q5. Do you still have the 2012 Q5?”
“No.” I answered truthfully.
“Liar!”
My natural and immediate response was “excuse me?” as the line went dead.
I generally try not to be rude -- even on phishing and solicitation calls. There’s a person on the other line just trying to earn a living. Why should it be unpleasant for both of us? (I don't have the same feeling about robo calls.)
But being called a “liar”... I may have to rethink things and the ire may fall on the next unsolicited caller.

You never know what's on the end of that unrecognized phone number. I hope it's usually friendlier.

One of my first jobs was as a telephone collection agent and I had a friendly technique which worked.

I keep getting calls from a 'company' telling me there's something wrong with my computer. The other day I told the guy on the other end, if you can tell me the make and model of every computer in my home (here's a hint, we have several), I'll listen to you. He laughed, said "nevermind" and hung up.

I get all kinds of calls from almost every state wanting to sell me something. One day I got one of those annoying calls followed by another, but this time it was a potential client. You never know who is on the other side.

I recently had a similar experience. Except when I said I no longer had the vehicle the caller apologized for disturbing me. Warmed by the apology I said, "no problem," and wished her a good day. I definitely had a better experience than you.

The calls offends especially when its the same voice. The computer one states a problem with my Windows computer.. Maybe they should ask about my android phone next....
And I expect callers to announce who they are before I confirm its me. I'll ask who's calling Mr. Bearak....
