All Things Reality

I have admitted it before; I am a television reality junkie. I love The Real Housewives (New York, New Jersey, and Beverly Hills), Project Runway, Top Chef and Million Dollar Listings (New York, L.A. and San Francisco). I have rationalized my passion for reality television as  a means for getting me on the treadmill and/or the elliptical. I generally will not watch any other of these shows unless I am exercising.

But my love for all things reality has grown beyond the treadmill. A certain member of Fred’s firm (I won’t reveal the name in order to protect the identity of my fellow reality junkie) introduced me to a web site, Tomandlorenzo.com, wherein the two authors of the website critique fashion.  I have eaten lunch at my desk for years. For the past few years at lunchtime, however,  while you can still find me eating lunch at my desk,  I am now happily clicking through Tomandlorenzo.com.

And now my reality compulsion has extended to my morning commute.  If I am in the car at 9:13 a.m. I religiously turn 95.5 PLJ on my radio to listen to their segment entitled, “Blown Off.” The premise of the segment is that one party to a date will call into the radio station to find out why, after an apparently successful date, the other party never called them back. The DJ’s call, on the air, the second party to get their side of the story.  I am fixated with this radio segment and I have hooked my husband and my secretary also. If they missed the segment, I happily fill them in daily on what occurred.

I am beginning to wonder whether there is a cure for my reality habit. I also wonder whether I really want one.

I love reality TV because its mindless and harmless entertainment. Better than the darker shows now coming out.

I have some of the interest too, but it is funny how they call it "reality" TV when it is even farther from reality than Ozzie & Harriet. I do love the NYC versions of it all and my anthropological interest in Sisterwives. Will my interest last as long as the shows? We shall see.

Although I do watch TV, I must admit I have never watched reality TV, although several friends and relatives do watch what I believe are the more entertaining of the group and I have listened to them discussing some of their shows as well as some of the shows they don't watch. Hopefully Cayce is correct that the shows do not truly reflect reality.

I am hooked on HGTV, Dancing With the Stars, and sports. About it. What ever floats your boat!!! Enjoy!!!
