Turning the Beat Around

Cayce’s blog from last week inspired me to this blog. While Cayce wrote about the challenges she faced turning her diet around into a healthier lifestyle, I had the opposite challenge. In preparation for a minor procedure I had (I am absolutely fine), my doctor requested that I flip my diet around. I was advised not to eat vegetables, fruits, whole wheat products or any products that contained seeds for five days; all of which make up the majority of my diet. I was permitted to eat proteins, white flour products, healthy oils, and dairy products. My sister- in-law nicknamed this eating regiment the “no side dish” diet.

As I am sure my husband will attest, I whined and complained for the entire time.  My struggle was to try to eat in a healthy way but not incorporate the foods that I always believed were most healthy. I did come to an unexpected realization during the five day period.  There were some foods that I had previously excluded from my diet that were actually acceptable such potatoes and white rice.

I am happy to report that I am healthy and back into my old eating habits. But those habits will now include a potato or sweet potato every now and then.  This old dog learned some new tricks. Do you think you can flip your diet around as Cayce did and I was asked to do?

Of course your title made recall a Vicki Sue Robinson hit from '76

that Gloria Estefan covered 18 years later.
My recent checkup turned up a need to up certain foods (that I like) and thought I was eating sufficiently. So I am trying to double my intake and make others more frequent parts of my consumption habits.

If forced to I could go back to steak, franks and chopped liver.

Thankfully I haven't needed to adjust my diet. I've made changes between knowledge and listening to my body. It seems every body reacts/ needs different foods. It's wonderful when you are inputing what's best for your body.

I am still very much in the struggle. I have an deep emotional attachment to certain foods that I must acknowledge and take the future oriented road. Somehow when I don't feel sick, its harder to resist the foods that don't support me. For me, I'm happy to say, filet mignon is still on my healthiest diet plan, ribeye not so much...

I'm with Riva---I've tried to limit the amount that I eat...not really change what I eat, (it's pretty healthy to begin with) ONLY because my body reacts differently to certain things, potatoes, rice, pasta, ice cream-chocolate--I may want them--I don't eat them because we don't get along...lol
