Do You Respond?

I had the great good fortune to be asked by the Gotham Gods to be an ongoing writer for the Gotham Gazette. I was asked to write about LOVE in Gotham. So I reached out to five Gothamites by email about being featured in the story. The email listed in their Gotham profile.

Crickets. Then, I called all five. First one, so enthusiastic, so sorry they hadn't seen the email, got right back to me with everything I requested. One had me call back to their cell phone, but got back to me with everything. One had "not a working number" on their Gotham profile, but had another number and got back to me with everything. One said he was "too busy" to get it to me so quickly, so I extended the deadline adding many days, no response, nothing. One is in Antarctica. One was added last minute and got right back to me, overdelivered.

Someone You Haven't Met Yet

Steven Skyles Mulligan told me of reaching out to Gotham members to profile them and getting little to no response.

This is a NETWORKING group, right? When the opportunity arises, hop, skip and jump on it. You never know.

I've certainly been guilty myself, but now that I've experienced the "other side," my response time is asap.

It is amazing that despite the great encouragement of Mitch Tobol, people still don't fill out and update their profiles.

Are people just afraid of success? Let us know in the comments.

YOU. NEVER. KNOW.

The secret is out: I recommend to Group Coordinators that they do not introduce new members to Gotham until profiles get done. GCs and Group Chairs should be nudges on this. I recall taking pics of people so they'd have a website pic. I learned that from "webmaster" and Fred.
I understand people are busy and even an interim acknowledgement email can be sent.
As an aside, in certain cases -- we will not name the offenders, we needed to send three and four emails to remind people to pay for their Mets v. Yankees foray to Citifield. And folks who reserved but changed their mind in some cases because they longer remained free that date, never said anything until we sought payment. That left folks on the waiting list who benefitted hanging longer than really necessary.

Only last night I was counseling someone to fill out their profile and post their picture.

Great blog! Timely, succinct and a great suggestion for all!

It seems to be an unfortunate part of human nature to shoot ourselves in the foot regularly; unfortunate, but true, based on numerous examples we all see daily (in ourselves and others). How honest we are with ourselves about this, and how sincerely we try to upgrade our behavior, contributes significantly to our success.

I am happy to speak with any Gothamite, about anything, anytime! (or go shopping with Rona & Cindy)
Rona Gura

I listened to Mitch and updated my profile. I could not believe how out of date it was!!!! And, any Gotham member is welcome to come shopping with me, Cindy and Riva. :)

I was interviewed a while back for the Gazette after I won the Red Bandanna Service award. John Buscarello (sorry if I spelled that wrong)--it was a lot of fun and very thought provoking. I'm not sure if it was ever published, John made it so easy--I encourange any that is asked to go for it..you might find out more about yourself that you had not even thought of.

You don't know what you don't know!

Shopping---Riva, Rona and I have taken over Lord and Taylor in Garden City...join us...another fun and although we are friends we are still "networking" shopping is the best side effect. :)
