Feminist Politicians

I am by no means a hard core political junkie. In fact, I pay little attention to the presidential candidates until maybe 3 months out. I don't watch the news. I don't read the paper. I do get something called "The Skimm" which is a great news summary with a sense of humor, about a page long Monday thru Friday. Highly recommend it. (http://www.theskimm.com/?r=a115abbd) And I am fairly active on Social Media, especially Facebook, so things creep through. I will unfollow complainers and victims and mean people in a NY minute. However, sometimes something political gets through that is uplifting, this time it was Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, talking about being a Feminist Politician. He talked about how he wants to raise his sons to be "feminists just like Dad." Very encouraging. I'd love to hear that from one of our current Presidential candidates, but you'll have to tell me, I'm not listening to them...

It becomes an interesting situation. Some PACS, Emilys List, for example, will only support female candidates; it could put an otherwise better on "women issues" -- whatever they might be -- male candidate at a disadvantage. There are groups such as NOW that have political arms that rate and endorse candidates. Nothing similar that I've encountered with "male issues." And what qualifies as women's issues? Choice? Family Leave? (Paid) Sick Leave? Glass ceiling? MWBEs? Equal pay? Or do other issues matter more? Economy? Education? Immigration? Trade? Might candidates on the right be just as candidates on the left (various places in between) in their attitude -- in claiming to be a "feminist"?

Ideally, being a humanist is the best route, however, misogyny still reigns supreme even here in the USA, so leaning forward towards active feminism is going to heal this planet of ours.

Feminism=equality. For me, it's that simple.

We should all be in favor of that!

You are not going to believe me but I wrote, for next week, a blog on this same subject. We are in sync my friend. Congrats to getting to the topic first.

Corey, I would never debate politics with you *Clearly that is your domain. You mention Emily's list as though there are not MANY, MANY organizations that cater to men. As far as issues, it really is about being equal, whether it's salary, family leave etc...

That being said, TW is another point (even though it's amusing)--and it back fired because I no longer want to sit in the front!!!
