I have had an occasional interest, but no great and burning desire, to visit Poland to see the cities where my parents lived before the war. I am not sure why. Perhaps the images in my mind from the stories I have been told and pictures that I have seen is sufficient. Perhaps I realize that with the exception of the re-enactment in the movie "Schindler's List" (for my father's Cracow) and the PBS documentary "The Lodz Ghetto" (my mother's city), I will never be able to see and experience the cities as my parents knew them.
I read a recent article about how the family of former Pirates pitcher Fritz Ostermuller was upset about how their father was depicted in the movie about Jackie Robinson, "42". Historians now say that the movie represented more of a charicature, symbolic of all of the hatred and racism faced by Robinson, rather than an accurate portrayal. In is not an unusual tactic for a writer and it probably is harmless to those who aren't in the Ostermuller family. What I don't understand is why they didn't use a fictitious name instead.

Since Kim Kardashian announced that she was pregnant, photographs of her have been published on an almost daily basis. Equally pervasive have been negative comments about her weight gain and her choice of clothing during her pregnancy. She has been criticized for gaining too much weight, wearing clothing that was too tight, too revealing, and heels that were too high.
Before the first Mother's Day Eve and I shared a few years ago we excitedly went shopping for our mothers. It was the first time our parents all met. It was a lovely day and our mothers sat together opening their gifts and telling the other that they hoped we would get married one day. I remember it well. It was a very happy day.
As a follow to my blog last week about turning your technology off I decided to try it.
Yesterday I did not look at any emails or crack my computer till about 3 o'clock. I couldn't wait any longer...it was pulling me. I thought I had heard my phone say..."gotta check your email..." but I could be wrong.
