As we settled into our seats at the theater, I opened the Playbill and read the insert asking that I shut off my cell phone. The request went beyond the usual reminder to “silence” the device. “PLEASE...turn off your cell phones...” the insert implored, followed by an explanation of how even silenced phones interfered with the theater’s sound system.
You know what they say about birthdays, right? Sure beats the alternative. It’s certainly a mixed blessing, especially once you’ve reached “a certain age.” One day nearer the end, but the end could be another 50 - 60 years away…

I recently read an interesting article about facial recognition software.
Today is Pi Day because the date spells the first three digits (3.14) of pi, or π, the mathematical constant that represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. This year, the event is even more special because, for the first time in a century, the date will represent the first five digits of pi: 3.14.15.   Do you celebrate pi day? Maybe you can have a pi party with 3 types of pies and 14 slices.  
Are you old enough to have seen early television's iconic children's program "Howdy Doody" (puppet) show?  If you are,  you may remember Princess Summerfall Winterspring. She was Native American and a good girl. Of course, her name was a play on our lauded 4 season northern weather. Well, my favorite number is 3 and I'm advocating a royal name change to Princess Summerfall Spring. For sure, it sounds and feels better. What ever happened to global warming?
