It almost happened...My sister and I were scheduled to see our Mom face to face this weekend. However, since all of the workers at the assisted living facility did not got vaccinated (which is the subject of a different kind of blog) two of them were diagnosed with COVID-19 and they had to cancel all the visitors...again. So disappointing.  
The definition of mailing it in is to perform a given task, duty or activity with little or no attention, effort, or interest in actually doing something, ie, doing it in a perfunctory manner.    For example, a key player on the gridiron, the team star running back, “seems to be mailing it in this afternoon.”
In a FaceTime call the other day, our four year old grandson offered that he couldn’t wait to visit us at our house - "maybe when the virus is over” ... and... “maybe even we won’t have to wear masks”. From the mouths of babes....
  At 11:59 every night, my phone starts singing the quietest of sleep songs. Then at midnight, it literally shuts down into sleep mode.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have all made changes in our business practices. One of the changes I have been forced to make is that I now do all my own billing. It is not a task I enjoy doing, but it is necessary.    
On or after or sometimes before this day – always a Saturday eve, my (fraternal) lodge would hold a “sweethearts dance” and for the last couple of years it did not happen and a several couple got together on our own; this year the pandemic offered an easy excuse. Hopefully, next year will see its return.
