We were in Washington D.C. last weekend, visiting our children and grandchildren in the District and Alexandria. Two of the immediate benefits of being vaccinated was being able to hug my daughter, who I hadn’t seen in over a year,  and hold my two-month-old granddaughter for the first time.
Today feels complicated. Close your eyes and think about 10 years ago. What do you see? Who bubbles up for you? Anything special that surfaces? Even 5 years ago seemed so much simpler. A cuppa frothy cappuccino from Small World in Princeton, sitting outside, taking in the morning air, whilst people bustled about. It won’t be long now before I see my friend Dana, drifting about Nassau Street. She was always deep in thought, contemplating the meaning and purpose of life.
I recently presented at a program for lawyers all about Networking (thank you Carol Greenwald for the invitation).
A longtime friend, Melanie, called me last week to tell me that she had been re-watching episodes of “Ally McBeal” on Amazon Prime. Melanie and I met when our children were very young, as single mothers, living in the same gated community. Melanie and I, and our children, quickly became close friends.
As more of us get vaxed and the weather warms – after all we rejoice in the arrival of Spring today, one can envision a return of a summer concert season focusing on outdoor venue. Not sure yet on that as two concerts that were rescheduled to May got rescheduled to next fall. Indeed, many shows we planned to attend before the advent of COVID-19 got rescheduled multiple times.
While talking with one of my contacts at Hofstra, she said that she's moved on from drinking green tea and now orders a caramel latte but feels guilty because of the calories.      I said WTF, if it brings you some joy, order it! You deserve it :)   I got off the phone and thought about a quote from Mark Twain that popped into my head...
We did not cut the line(a subject for another day) and Joanne and I received our second Moderna vaccination on March 7th and we are patiently waiting out the safe harbor, post shot period before re-emerging and being out and about! Thank you Dr. Carla Fry, your nursing student cadre and The College Of The Florida Keys for stepping up in the vaccination roll out!
In a phone call earlier this week, my friend told me that he was being liberated on Monday, March 22nd. “Liberated” —- what an interesting and timely word.
