Control

Categories

Lately the concept of Control has come to the fore and into focus.

Control is defined as "To exercise authority or dominating influence over; direct; regulate".

The definition brings back the memory Alexander Haag blurting (erroneously) "I am in control",  just after Reagan was shot.

I really didn't consider my self a controlling type person until recently when a new acquaintance entered my life and I suddenly found myself in uncomfortable situations.

I pondered my discomfort and concluded that it stemmed from the fact I wasn't setting the agenda or channeling the flow.

Self control and control of others is a very potent matter with many manifestations and consequences which should be coolly considered and exercised.

I dont think you are a controlling type. I think you pick your "battles" so to speak and controll situations. This is not a bad thing. Its a leadership quality....control the situation, not the person

I was once told, "We know who controls the remote in your family."LOL
I feel the same way as you, Fred....it makes me uncomfortable but we live, learn and allow Cindy to sit in the front seat on our next trip. We can practice your self control, cause I have for the last few years, in fact I've mastered it. The flip side to your control about TW travels, is that I have had the chance to get to know Corey better! Can't beat that! :)
PS, I don't consider myself a controlling person either....I just know what I want.

You wouldn't have gotten where you are without liking being in control. That's true for a lot of us.

On certain matters, I'm a total control freak. I'm married to one, as well. Fortunately, we're generally on the same page. Must be a German thing...

The art of control: doing so without those being "control" knowing such. Making things happen, often without one's "fingerprints".....Information, how you access it, how you share it, how you use it, empowers an ability to "control" -- thus ability to use technology either directly or by direction of others, greatly enhances one's ability to "control."
Even one's recognition as a source of great info -- think your post to your namesake list about your "oracle" goes to enhancing one's "control" aka "power".

My ex-father-in-law once said to me, "You cannot control others, only how you react to them." Wise words.

Fred,
I wonder how you mentally handle roller coasters and scary movies? Anxiety, or fun? Sometimes it's fun to let go. I'd bet you have a hard time with both activities.
