I just started David McCullogh's new book on the Wright Brothers. When I was in fifth grade I did a specialty report on them though I can't say I remember much about it. I do remember though my mother coming to class that day and sitting in the back while I nervously gave my presentation. The book is filled with a number of quotes from brother Wilber. One says this: "if I were giving a young man advice as to how he might succeed in life, I would say to him, pick out a good father and mother, and begin life in Ohio." I don't know about Ohio, and I certainly wouldn't necessarily advise a young man to start in New Jersey. But I do know I picked out a good mother and father. And I am grateful for that.

Not sure I can say the same, but I have nothing to compare it to and I tried real hard to be a good father.

I was lucky, I had a wonderful mother and father. The older I get, the more I was realize that I was very lucky to have that start in life. My brother, sister, and I talk about that a lot lately.

But, as Fred said, I have also noticed that those that may not have had the best parents work hard to overcome that and become incredible parents.

I have often told my kids that I wish they came out with instructions! I think that I got a little better with each kid so I guess its a shame I stopped at 3.

I love and appreciate my mom and dad much more now than when I was a kid. My dad was very hard on me. But maybe that was part of what made me the parent and person I am now. For better or worse! I don't have the stomach or strength to be tough on my kids as he was on me. :)

Not enough can be said of support from parents and even one's grandparents. I learned much and grandpa gave me this line, "Be calm and cool at all times."

Do we ever appreciate our parents when we are kids? Usually it happens later and hopefully we get to thank them.
