Shrinking

Did you ever notice in old black-and-white photographs how short the old people are?

My mother was under 5 feet tall and my father just over 5 feet.  Thus, it was grounds for rejoicing when I continued to grow into my 20s to my Apogee of 5 feet 9 3/4 inches.

Now, however,  approximately a half a century later I have receded to 5'7".

It's not so much that I noticed, it's that my sons and grandson continue to point it out saying "I'm taller than you now".

I suppose the scientific explanation is that the padding between my vertebrae has been compressed by gravity and the years.

I have said that my goal is to live to be 100 and if so I might just reach my parents' height.

Did you have to get your pants shortened?

You are as tall as the official record still states; what sayeth your driver's license?

Men are always so concerned with shrinkage.

Stand on your head everyday and reverse the effect.

You will always be huge to me.

When you are shorter than me can I sit in the front seat?
I like that you have no control over this competition. :)

What matters most is that however short you get, you are still standing tall! Not to worry, you'll always be my brother. Sam

I was the tallest girl in the 8th grade at PS 117. I had to walk down the aisle all by myself because we were one boy short. I was humiliated. Now I am 5'6" tall which is not teeny, but everyone in the family is taller than I. It is still himiliating. But we're still here!!!!

I like what Cayce said...Men are always concerned with shrinkage. Shrinkage of what ? Or in the context of seeing a shrink? My closest comrade in California is a shrink. 45 years of profound therapy whether I wanted it or not. How do you really feel about that? What is the real reason you tried that ? Blah Blah ! He now has Alzheimers. Where's my car ? Where's my wife? Shrinkage. After 71 years of being impractical I finally installed a home gym in my man cave . Next to my Harley and beloved picture of Dennis Hopper flipping off some thug who then fired a shotgun blast into his mug....I digress...It's to prevent shrinkage. Of my muscles. Curls for the girls. Driving to the gym was wasting my time. Shrinkage of my bank account. Always worries me. So I still fly the big jet. To inflate my bank account and my fragile ego (When Joanne is mad at me.) If I wash my already too tight jeans in hot water they shrink. big worry. I get them at Costco for 20 bucks. BTW I'm still a solid 74 inches of non shrink body. So Fred probably knows that I'm dancing around the big shrinkage question. My penis. That's why God made Mexico !!

Oy!! Now you have me wondering. I'm going to have to check my height.

So many comments running through my head right now about size, shrinkage and what really matters. But alas, I will stay on point. Fred, my grandson informed me we could live to 165 if we drink a lot of water. Now I have to wonder what life would be like being 2 feet tall.

Hubby (6') hates it when I tell people I've shrunk (5'9")...so as Corey said I'll stick to what's on my DL and say I'm still 4'11" (alas, never made it to the 5's...)! So look at your DL, and what we all think of you, and you're much taller than 5'9.75" & what your sons/grandson say!
Fred Klein

I must say that I blundered into a common strain with this blog and I appreciate each and every comment. Also the ever growing number of comments on this blog puts off certain naysayers such as as HHDB who say that my comments have been diminishing, shrinking.

Lucky for me, I like wearing high heals. For men, cowboy boots will add an inch or so and they look fabulous!
