A Break From Tradition?

Categories

I heard about it this year while watching the Super Bowl but I never really thought it to be a real possibility.  Playing the Super Bowl on a Saturday instead of on "Super Bowl Sunday."  Now they are talking about it for next year at Giants...er uh...Met Life Stadium.

Really, it makes complete sense particularly since they extended the Super Bowl break to two weeks years back. It has become one of the biggest party days of the year (in my experience surpassing New Year's Eve).  Where is the sense in forcing everyone to minimize their enjoyment and struggle to get through the work day on Monday, when they could simply slide it to the day before and let everyone rest the day after.

Thoughts?  Great idea or American blasphemy?

I think it's a good idea. It's already in the wrong year what difference does a day make? :)

Very good idea and allows for a "rain" day

I heard on the radio this a.m. that they're contemplating possibly designating Tues. as a back-up day, in the event of sufficiently inclement weather on game day. Boy oh boy, with changes like this, pretty soon they'll be debating getting rid of the penny coin and the dollar bill, and Sat. regular mail delivery....

I think it is a great idea! Gives folks a chance to relax on Sunday. Watch the replays and yes more commentaries!!!

Either move it to Saturday or the Sunday before Martin Luther King Day.

An excellent idea to make it Saturday. Many families celebrate/watch together (including my extended one with young nieces. After the Super Bowl, besides work zombies we end up with sleepy school kids or kids/parents that had to miss the end of the game.

I generally think moving the Superbowl to Saturday is a good idea. It's a big party day and would be even bigger if you had Sunday to "sleep it off". I also like the thought that's been floating around of starting the season a little later to end it in mid February since this month becomes a sports vacum after the superbowl and pre-spring training baseball and March Madness. The NFL playoffs would fill that gap nicely.

However, If you're going to bring the Superbowl to a cold city with no dome I think they should play in the elements. Some of the best games in NFL history were played on "frozen tundra" or in the blinding snow like the famous "tuck game" in Foxboro. I hope they don't chicken out and move it for a snow flurry or rain shower. They might as well play two hand touch.

I think its great that they're playing in Jets Stadium, oops I mean Met Life Stadium.

When the Jets play there isn't it called "no signs of life" stadium?

I think it should return to the original 1pm EST time slot as when the J E T S last one the darn thing!
