Gotham's New Web Site

Categories
Tech News

Two of my recent Blogs have discussed the pluses and minuses of technology. In that vein this week's is about my uneasy, up close and personal encounter (inter-action does not apply) with Gotham technology. Namely, our spanking new, state of the art, bleeding edge, web site.

Webmaster Mitch has been working on it for longer than we would like to admit and has done a great job.

Problem is that I'm a Luddite (named after a 18th century man who was troubled by technological change). Either the new web site does not like me or we are just incompatible. All I know is I am having difficulty, eg, I could not paste in my blog

However, there is no turning back as the old, familiar site was breaking down like an eroding satellite falling from orbit. So, with no alternative, I am going forward and trying. I'm sure I'll get the knack and learn all the neat bells and whistles.

How are you doing with it?

I managed to get a comment to your blog posted. Indisputable evidence of the fact that the site is user-friendly.

I'm struggling as well. Loyalty to Mitch prevents me from venting any further frustration. Somehow this must be Obama's fault ;)

p.s. If you think you are have problems with new technology, just think about how Manti Te'o feels.

Mitch is getting the kinks out and it's getting better and easier every day! Yea Mitch!

This FaceBook-like, interactive website is the wave of the future...not sure if I am ready for the loss of privacy. As for technical difficulties, I didn't realize that what I thought was my "Profile picture" was really my "Avatar"...like learning a new language!

Send me an email Erik...and I'll try to help

Perhaps we need a Gotham Website educational event as it seems to have more bells and whistles than most of us can figure out? For some reason I keep having to go to the I forgot my password screen as it doesn't seem to accept my changes once I change the password.

Watch any 10 yr old in action---the thought of change has not even begun to enter their little minds. Technology (for them) has always shifted- rapidly. Just last night I asked my daughter who she was skyping with...duh Mom, "It's OOVO or KIK and my whole class is on right now---I have to say.."That's pretty awesome!!"
Fred, did you ever imagine you would master your BB so well. Problem is once we master something--it changes!

Is it only my computer, or do the pages fall off on the right side, so that I have to scroll over even to sign in?

You already did, lol. It will be fine once we get used to it, like everything new. I'm still trying to figurte out my Iphone completely. Btw, expecting an offer sheet today on a new position. At this point, not getting excited until it's done. :)

As probably the one who has emailed Mitch the most with questions about the new site, I have to say that it is the wave of the future. And what he keeps saying is true-you just have to keep playing with it to get used to it.

While I haven't found/figured out everything yet, I have to say I LOVE the new website. Don't hate me because I'm a Geek who loves new technology and technology challenges (years ago my iBook's hard drive crashed and I installed a new one myself by reading the instructions). As Mitch says, just keep playing with it. See you all online!

i am looking forward to better understanding the new web site. I would REALLY like to know how to change my password and will ask the Webmeister directly when things calm down (?) for him.

Hey, I just clicked on all those little buttons on the bottom right and answered my own question. Password changed. I am a happy camper. One less issue for Mitch
Corey Bearak

In the vein of Apple (sorry Windows and android lovers), this offers the ability to navigate and figure it out on your own, with out lessons. I love the layout and colors. The things that I care not about (eg, my use name -- I prefer CoreyBearak or Corey or Bearak to Corey_Bearak) involve style NOT substance. I added just about every Gotham photo that involves me. I looking forward the the rollout of additional features so I can insert hyperlinks in my comments. I might even change my avatar if Marisa creates the design today's blogger suggested (I am not sure who else saw the pic that inspired it but for now I leave it to Fred to share.).
And one real MAJOR improvement that many may never encounter (how many folks navigate within the site before they finish a post and click post -- besides moi?): You can move about this site and then come back to the post and finish it. [This time is was Queenie's "fault" -- as I read the password reference. In fact "Webmaster" made changing the PW easy. It just involves going to one's profile, clicking edit and typing the new code 2x and with no requirement to also type the prior PW -- simple.]
Good job Mitch!
Donald Bernstein

So how do you search for old blogs on this new site? Like by author? Hard to get used to change sometimes.
