Where Are You Shopping?

Lately I have been astounded by the number and variations of supermarkets on Long Island. When grocery shopping at home I generally frequent Stop and Shop or Trader Joe’s. I go to Stop and Shop when I need more mainstream items. Trader Joe’s is my “fun” supermarket. When I have time, I love to browse Trader Joe’s aisles and see what new and interesting items they have. Of course, there is also my standard Trader Joe’s items that I love such as their lemon spatchcock chicken and cauliflower gnocchi.

In the past few weeks, I have had to travel around Long Island for work and I stopped in to pick up groceries at numerous stores that I have never been to before. I went to HMart for the first time.  I had so much fun picking up Asian delicacies. While it is a distance from my house, I will definitely stop in again when I am in the neighborhood.

I went into Food Bazar for the first time. While its appearance is strongly reminiscent of the Fairway that was there before, I found new items at Food Bazar that Fairway did not carry. Lastly, I stopped into ShopRite in Lake Success. I do not have a ShopRite near my house.  The enormity of Shop overwhelmed me. I did not have enough time to really browse but their store brand looked interesting. And, when I am back in that area, I will make time to really browse that huge store.

Where we are in Florida, there are really just three choices for stores, Publix, the nicest, Winn Dixie, a further drive, but has decent items and Aldi's the least expensive and closest. We have to drive over an hour to Orlando for the nearest Trader Joe's which we dearly miss. There are a few markets for for diverse and ethnic products, but nothing like in LI or the Boroughs. BJ's is another option that we frequent with larger portions and the best priced gas anywhere in the county.
