The Traffic Light

There are two roads leading out of our development. Both lead onto the same four-lane main road. One exit has a traffic light whereas the other does not.
I’ve always preferred the exit with the traffic light. There is the security of making a left turn into the main road with the light, while you can make the right turn on red under the right circumstances.
About a year ago, the timing of the traffic light was changed and the light is now a very long light. This has caused several of my neighbors to exit from the other road to save time - sometimes crossing a double center line when making a left turn into the main road.
I’ve been dubious of this practice. Thankfully and surprisingly, there have been no accidents that I am aware of.
A few minutes here and a few minutes there, I’ll wait for the light.

I know the feeling of having to cross a busy road with no light. I don't blame you for waiting where the light is.

I go out of my way to exit at a light.

I'll take the light as well. There's a store I frequent in my neighborhood to which its closer to home for me to turn left out of, but that means crossing to the far side of a four lane main road. I'll take the right and a slightly longer (maybe three extra minutes) ride.

Left turns are dangerous anyway. I started making a left turn (WOTH THE LIGHT THAT WAS NOW GREEN) and a southbound car blew the red light into me anyway.

Sun in his eyes.

I agree with you, Ben, and the others commenting. Exiting with a traffic light is always safer, and makes one wonder why the other lane does not provide the same benefit.
