"Love"

Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection.

The purpose of this blog is to register my disapproval of what seems to me is the present day watering down and usage of the word.

Unless memory fails me, Love was once only expressed in a very special sense in very special situations.

Now I hear the word bandied about in the most everyday sense and situations, eg, I love this, I love that...

I really think we need to recapture the intended use of this very special word, emotion and feeling!

I’d rather hear love - love this, love that, love them…There is so much hate being bandied about. For me I can’t hear it enough. Having said that - I do agree with you - it’s over use tends to dilute it’s meaning. But you know who you love- and mean it - and they do too - 3 3 3 balls 8-)

Words matter, how we use them matters and how we feel about how we use them matters the most.

Love is special. But I still think there us not enough of it going around.

All you need is LOVE! Love Fred and Gotham!

In the Olden Times (1960s for example) the Brits used to call everyone "Luv". Several comments today also refer to the 60s as a time when "Love" was on the banners - along with "Peace". Words Matter but even more important is the intent. I dare say that a tween who days they Love you means something quite different than when they say "Ooooh, I just Loooove Boba Tea!"

Anyway, is this just a trap to get everyone to say they Love the author of this Post? If so, it works because we do.

Wow, you really really know (and love) me ❤️

It's true that language evolves over time, and words can sometimes lose their original depth and significance. Your observation about the present-day watering down of the word is very thought-provoking.

I agree with Judy - let's use the word often and fill the air with LOVE!

I see love as an essential component of being human ... I don't mind so much it being commercialized or diluted as you notice, as for example "I loved that movie." I seem to be getting serious, perhaps too serious with the topic... The lack of sincere lov for others is disturbing ... as may be found in a "me" culture. True love is perhaps expressed in "'love others as yourself." Quoting from a book I'm reading, "Universal Compassion": "The wish for others to be happy and to help them achieve happiness is wishing love. Quoting Paul.. I love you Fred, and Ray who noted words can lose their original meaning ... both say a lot

Very timely blog. I have recently noticed people saying "Love ya," instead of good by when hanging up the phone, leaving one another at a restaurant etc. It takes all of my will power NOT to say, "Do you really? Do you love me?"

I love this topic… really!
With so much hatred, misery and division love is needed to conquer the baddies… we need more, not rationed love!
Love you and Joanne with gratitude for all the good you bring to our world.
