Restraint

As I mature, I find that I have learned to restrain myself in the face of real or perceived provocation.

While the blood is up, I tell myself "Don't let them get to you. Don't dignify it with a response."

Oft times, silence is golden in the face and place of fury.

Why say or do something that you may later be sorry for?

Think before you act!

Soothe Self with Silence!

I was given some insight many years ago from a friend who survived the holocaust. He said, "you cannot reason with darkness." His words influenced how I choose to use mine.

Perhaps it is maturity. My Father used to tell us that usually when someone "wigs out (my word not his)" they have problems in their own life and are projecting them onto you. As I kid I didn't buy it, now I do!

Many years ago my lovely wife, who I love dearly, was driving us around looking for parking spot. She shouted out a couple bad words to a vehicle stealing a spot she wanted. They were 2 guys in a pick up with a couple guns in a back window rack. They pulled out of the spot and followed us around for 45 min. We couldn't shake them. We didn't dare go home instead we pulled into the police station parking lot and they kept going - our heart rates at 150 or so. She's a little wiser and still lovely.

I just had to do that this week. I got a text message that upset me. I was about to type a nasty reply but I held myself back. After some time I decided that the best thing to do would be not to answer. It would have been so easy to type and send and then regret.
Great advice Fred!! Especially in this techno world.

I try to never let negative people occupy too much of mental real estate!
