A new restaurant model?

Not sure if this will catch on, but I sat down to eat lunch at a diner of sorts. In order to get food or drink I had to use the QR code in front of me to place the order, which isn't unusual. However, before any server spoke with me or had any staff interaction I had to pay for my meal AND leave a tip!

Is this the new paradigm?

BTW, I looked and did not see an option for no tip. I would've used that and left cash.

I tell the staff that I can't use the QR code and must have a printed menu. They think I say it because I am old but really "I Can't" means that it is contrary to my beliefs that the world should remain human.
PS Too much wage theft connected to credit card payments in restaurants. Plus, the merchant fees are deducted from the tips.

Not a fan. How can you tip on service not yet provided or pay for the meal that may be prepared incorrectly? I guess they are adopting the fast food model.

I've used those codes. I never had to pay before getting my food. What if you wanted more food?
