When We Were Young

Recently, I organized a reunion of fellow contemporary graduates of my Syracuse University alma mater.

It was held at the University's mid town New York City "Embassy", Lubin House, a beautiful, circa 1876, brown stone building.

The inspiration for the reunion came from my granddaughter Maggie, a recent SU grad who works at Lubin House as Assistant Director of SU Admissions.

Most of the attendees were my Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity brothers and my wife Joanne's Iota Alpha Pi sorority sisters, some of whom we had not seen in 60 years. Not surprisingly, an oft repeated expression was "You look good." And I agree, we do!

One Sammie, Don Cronson, decorated the Lubin House walls with a collection of photographs which harked back to our student years. Many of these pics were peppered by such fellow students as Lou Reed, Steve Rubell, Ian Schrager, Ernie Davis, Dave Bing and John Mackey.

Consistent with the "When We Were Young" theme were the priceless and historic reminiscences we regaled each other with.

There is something very special about the sustenance and fellowship generated by a group of people being reunited while sharing common history and experiences!

What's more, the Lubin House setting was exquisite, the luncheon delicious and everyone behaved admirably. So much so that I'm already motivated to organize next year's reunion with an even more appropriate theme.

Forever Young!!!

And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young

What a wonderful idea. It must have been quite an experience. Good for you for thinking of it and organizing. But of course - that’s what you do :0)

Love the college spirit, go orange! We had a Sammy fraternity at Lehigh.

Memories are good for visiting - looking forward to reading about next year's reunion.

What a treasure maintaining these relationships. I have one coming up. Fifty five years ago, my peace corps group.

Nice touch with the video in the blog Fred. "Reunited, and it feels so good"

Getting together with old classmates, friends, and family is the best!
Organizing this one clearly brought so much joy to everyone and you.
Great photos and videos.

Congratulations Fred on this wonderful reunion. My college class doesn't do that but my high school class has been meeting every year, and when I can go to Poland at that time, I join them. It's good to have old friends!

I truly treasure my long time friends. Having common shared experiences make those relationships strong.

Sorry I missed this but can resist adding I was a Sammy calendar girl at the UW, Seattle, 1967. Some of the most endearing relationships today hail from high school and college. Cherished ouch points.
