Sounds of silence

Have you ever thought about driving in silence? It may sound weird at first, but trust me, it's worth giving it a try.

When I'm quiet in my car, no music or talk radio, I'm able to clear my mind and be more mindful. I think about the day that passed, or get ready for the day ahead, or even create solutions for marketing challenges I'm faced with. It's a great way to increase the flow of ideas and creativity.

I also appreciate the journey more. When there's no music or conversation to distract me, I can fully immerse myself in the scenery and take in all the sights and sounds that I pass through. Especially during spring when every plant is starting to burst into view.

I enjoy driving and love the sounds of my car. I may even catch any strange noises or warning signals that would indicate a problem or just revel in the hum of a finely tuned automobile.

So, the next time you're in your car, give it a try. It may seem strange at first, but it could be just what you need :-)

I do my best thinking driving, swimming or in the predawn hours before I get out of bed!

I do not use a headset when I am running. It is a wonderful way to defrag my mind. I also take time out every day to sit with myself and let my mind wander. It's a form of mediation I suppose. I am glad you found the beauty of silence too. Although it's not very quiet.

It is rare I drive in silence. It could just be Waze or so short a run I do not turn on sports radio or a fave podcast or stream cable news or music I program. Other than what follows do not necessarily care for quiet sound:

Since moving down south where the radio stations are meh, I have learned to enjoy driving in silence. A lot so see by the water ways and it helps me focus on whatever my mind goes to. Funny thing, every time I get back to NY and rent a car, the first thing I do is tune in sports radio. Not liking the silence in NY for some reason.

Silence is golden! What you described also holds true for motorcycle riding.

Never. I either listen to music or talk on the phone. But, given your endorsement, I have to try it.
