Is it Still a Man's World?

Last week I wrote about Kirsten Neuschafer (pictured), an extraordinary woman striving to win an around the World single sailor sail boat race against an all male field. I'm happy to announce that at this writing she is still (barely) in the lead.

After reading the blog, the subject question was posed by one of my readers and it got me thinking.

I was a first born son who grew up in the wonderful 1950s. Wonderful for me, but not so much for my sister who was always heard to say "My brother is an only child".

Was it right? Most probably not, but it was indicative of the times...

Over the span of my life much has changed for the betterment of women (and as a result for men).

I ascribe much of my success in my career as a lawyer to my 3 female partners, including my Gotham co Founder Nancy Schess.

But the question was posed and the question remains...

As has been said in other areas, things have changed and much remains the same.

From my vantage point, things have changed quite a bit. I am just not sure who's world this is.

Misogyny is still the worlds biggest problem. Ask again when we have 50% female or other in elected office. All we can do is be kind and breathe. Still wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

The Grateful Dead proclaim, “that’s right the women are smarter. Smarter than the men in every way, Aiko, Aiko all day”. All of my female friends, family and clients are smart women who have heeded my advice and protected their family’s Human Life Value, planned for their retirement and ensured their legacies. The women in my world are more responsible than the men and are the real leaders to me.

The field is definitely leveling in the direction of DEI (which includes women, race, culture and gender), but I anticipate vestiges of anachronistic behaviors for decades, if not centuries, to come. My greatest business partners and mentors draw as much from men as women. To build a better world requires trust and a spirit of inclusion. Thanks for checking the barometer!

It wouldn’t be if women ran things

The only thing constant is change. They say it takes 7 seconds to get a mans attention and 10 seconds to get a womans intention. Patience is a virtue!
