Boys Night Out

Categories
Lifestyle

On Wednesday night I facilitated a "Boys Night Out".

Of course, we are no longer Boys, but we like to think of ourselves as such and maybe we act it at times.

In any case, we were an eclectic group of 6 guys (pictured). 4 from New York, one from New Orleans and one from Kentucky and, not coincidentally, 4 Liberals and 2 conservatives.

There was no pre planned agenda for the night and the discourse devolved to politics which one of the attendees described as "pretty rough". For sure, it was animated!

Another attendee said "Thanks so much for a very interesting dinner with a more diverse political group than I'm used to. It actually is more interesting to have discussions with those that don't agree with you than those that do. You put together a well spoken group with diverse opinions which created thoughtful conversations. I look forward to our next encounter."

I agree. Good food and people when put in combination with a liberal dose of alcohol is good for the mind and soul.

Bravo for having a political conversation and not killing each other. I agree it’s important to hear the other side from INTELLIGENT AND RATIONAL people .
Daniel Schwartz

It's though these days to have such conversations as the two sides do tend to be at extreme odds. I am sure the alcohol helped.
Paul Napolitano

Liberals and conservatives generally all have the same goals. It’s just how to get there. If you remember that, and treat everyone with respect, you can have great conversations and maybe learn something.
Shelley Simpson

Conversation as exploration is a skill that many are afraid to engage it. It requires an open and curious mind and a willingness to engage with respect for the other's point of view which has always been key to productive discourse. And it is fun!
Kelly Welles

In discussing the new perilous Age of AI last nite on TV, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt said the fulcrom of engagement is conflict so the social media algorhythms are set to that and is the primary cause of such unprecedented conflict today. Fortunately, your Boys were well-behaved.
Benjamin Geizhals

Sounds like the perfect mix. I’m happy that no-one said “Let’s take this outside.”
Louis Cappelli

Since I can handle it in my own family I have know problem with friends, listen and talk softly when you don't agree,

I disagree Paul. Today’s “liberals” are woke progressives who promote woke ideology and are driving our country towards socialism in a post Constitutional world. Conservatives on the other hand strive for independent thought (not groupthink), freedoms granted by the document and pursuit of happiness. Progressives in leadership today say you shouldn’t even be friends with Conservatives or anyone who voted or supported Donald J Trump. Liberals are not tolerant of anything that diverges from this pathway to socialism while Conservatives cling to Christian-Judeo values that have forged the greatest Republic in the history of man. Liberals want to stack the Supreme Court and Conservatives want freedom for all and don’t care what others do as long as it doesn’t affect their own pursuit of how they define wealth and happiness.
Vincent Chirico

I regularly enjoy conversing with folks with opposite political viewpoints - it's a great way to refine my own positions, allows for personal growth all around, and it brings people together during these polarized times. We need lots MORE of these events!
