A Significant Nobody

Categories
Lifestyle

Recently, I have started describing myself as a "significant nobody".

It's not for nothing that I come by this moniker.

Yes, I was Treasurer of the Friars Club for 10 years, senior partner of a labor and employment firm for many many years and cofounder of Gotham City Networking, but that all came to a resounding end last Fall.

At that time our firm merged into the full service firm of Tarter Krinsky & Drogin LLP.

They are such a welcoming group of accomplished professionals, but no matter how welcoming it was quite a shock to be transported from The Man to the New Guy(Rookie), ergo, the Significant Nobody.

Needless to say being who I am, I'm endeavoring to find my way and make my mark!

To be continued...

We all are Rookies at something. It's all about learning and adapting until the next challange.

I don’t see it that way. Instead you’re now “the next best thing” and shiny new object. Your orb will continue to glow as long as you stay engaged in one way or another.

Thank you for your meaningful perspective!

You will always be the macher, wherever you go. I’m glad you found a great place with truly great people.

Fred, Reading this gave me an explanation for what I saw on the call this morning. I had never seen it before from you before. For the first time you raised your hand and waited to speak, and waited, and waited and waited. You have it in your head that you are "The New Guy" and your letting it change "Fred". Don't stop being Fred, speak up. Don't let the perception of all the new so called experts at the new law form let you lose perspective on all you have accomplished and all the people who have viewed you as "the Man" or the "Go-To". They would not have merged with a "Significant Nobody". Stop using that term before its to late and you find yourself becoming Morty Seinfeld.
Mike Wiebe

Significant old hand is a more accurate phrase because of your wisdom. Accomplished professionals have a lot but the younger ones & some of the older ones don't have that.

Thanks for the guts to share this. It would be unusual if you didn't feel unmoored. Not unlike an immigrant. There is an Academy Award nominated film out called The Triangle of Sadness about what happens to a yatch's elite passengers when shipwrecked and the cleaning lady is the only one who knows how to fish and make fire and has all the power. All religions teach the value of stillness. Or meditation. Only when you quiet the egoic mind will you remember who you really are. Be generous to yourself.

OK to be anxious but you will find ways to understand and deal with the reality. And, then, help us all!
