1969

Last week my Friday With Fred blog was about the Anubis Horribus year of 1968, eg, 2 assassinations and my friend David Berger suggested I lighten it up by blogging about the wonderful subsequent year.

1969 has been called The Year That Shook the World.

Pictured are many of the wonderful highlights of a wonderful bounce-back year!

For me, a Sports Fan (Fanatic) 1969 was uniquely wonderful.

And here we go: At least as to New York sports teams, The Amazin’ Mets win the World Series, Broadway Joe Namath successfully predicted the Jets Super Bowl win and Willis Reed limped dramatically onto the Madison Square Garden court to inspire the Knicks 7th game title win!!!

Quite a trifecta!!!

History will repeat itself!

How about the Stonewall Riots? Ironically, Judy Garland's death that same week overshadowed the events in Greenwich Village, at least at that time.

Chances of a repeat are better than they've been in decades; all of the local area teams are middling-to-great, though we're not quite there yet.

I was very young in 1968. My father's company had a box on the first base line in Shea Stadium in 1968. The players practically knew me. I had a Mr. Met doll that the beginning lineup all signed. When my parents sold their house I went looking for the doll. My mother threw it out. Ugh!! There went the payment for my children's college education.

My wife and I were at the final game it was cold but I would love to have that opportunity again. GO METS

It’s been too long for Jets!
Knicks are overdue, too!
But the 1969 Music stays alive!

For me 1969 means the year I learned English and tried to "fit-in". I arrived on US soil 12/26/68, from Colombia, so we moved to our new apartment that Jan (Mom still resides there). We had to go to summer school to learn English; my 12 year old sister & 10 year old me took a bus to the Bronx by ourselves! (Dad worked, Mom stayed home with two younger sisters). We actually learned a great deal that summer, and from watching Sesame Street & the Electric Company. Still remember watching the Moon Landing, but don't recall anything about the Mets historic win. At that time we were all about studying to learn English and try to engage with a whole new world. Do recall the excitement at school over the Mets but did not understand why....how times have changed for me. Today I ardently say Let's Go Mets, Jets & Knicks; it would be miraculous to see a repeat of '69 from a NY Sports perspective and now I'd fully grasp the excitement :)

It was a good year for three of the teams that mattered for me including the carryover in the following year for the one Dolan of the Face ID software currently owns. Yes on the music and that landing.
