A delayed show channeled even longer memories

The last re-scheduled -- or is that delayed -- event that I planned to attend that COVID-19 impacted took place last Thursday eve in Manhattan; Marisa and I took in the "Marshall Tucker Band  Band 50th Anniversary Tour" with Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes as the opener and the Beacon Theatre of amazing artwork and even better sound.  I'd not claim this function signals any return to normalcy or life pre-COVID. It just means things deferred no longer.  More in person meetings.

Interestingly, when I booked the show as this year began, it featured a different opening act, Dave Mason.  Three days before the original show, an email comes advising of the concert's move to November 3.

Over the summer, by chance I learned that Mason no longer would open; he was touring on the west coast; it caused me to look into the the opener and I learned about Southside who is a long-time fave.  Interestingly, New Year's eve 1978, I recorded live Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes (from the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ) and Marshall Tucker Band (from New Orleans) shows featured in succession on WNEW-FM.  My stereo ran while we visited Times Square (the only time ) for the ball drop.   While I still have the shows on cassette, I have since secured available recordings that I continue to enjoy.  You can even view the Southside show on YouTube and listen to the Tucker show there.

The sound last week channeled those memories. View the Tucker setlist and the Southside set.

Beacon is a great venue and with that bill a great night of music, indeed.
