Trick or Treat

It is now less than a week away.  Will you celebrate? Will you dress up?

When my kids were young, Halloween was a glorious spectacle.  Lots of costume planning and changing. And oh, the candy.

Three Musketeers are my favorite.  I remember one year my son and his best friend went around the neighborhood gathering my favorite candy for me.  They came back with bags full.  Those two are both over six feet tall now.

My favorite costume was one year when Eric turned his tee shirt backwards and went as his evil twin.

Now, Halloween is a workday.  I’ll leave candy for the neighborhood kids and maybe catch some of the older kids at the end of the day.

I think we will at least decorate this weekend.

Happy Halloween!

I don't like Halloween! and really just don't "get it." I put up with it when the kids were little and ignore it now but for my Gratitude Jack which is really not about Halloween. Interestingly, my youngest son loves the event, he and his family go all out with themed costumes and activities. My other crew treatise the same way I did - with ambivalence doing the minimum required for the kiddos.

Dress up. Candy. Fun!!

We live in Manhattan apartment building and leave large bowl of commercial favorites in hallway for those that want. Only 2016 did a bad actor empty the bowl.

We still enjoy Halloween. No more costumes and I think my son Joe for the first time is not dressing up. But my wife put up some decorations and lights. The adult neighbors by me traditionally set up tables at one house and we all sit around with our favorite beverage and give candy out if anyone passes by. Looking forward to this new social tradition.

That is our plan this year. The bowl will go out on the stoop and we will hope for the best!
