I am sucker for old television. I know that I am a grown woman but watching shows I remember from when I was young is like going back in time.

I grew up in Brooklyn in an attached house. Our living space was small, but comfy. On the counter right next to the kitchen table where we ate every meal, sat our black and white 14 inch TV.  We had three televisions in the house – this small kitchen tv, the “family” television in our shared den, and my parents had a tv in their room too. Not a color screen in the bunch for a long time.

Looking back, it didn’t matter. The stories were the stories. I Love Lucy, Dark Shadows, Beverly Hillbillies, Star Trek, Lost in Space. Shall I go on? As one episode ended, I looked forward to the next coming up the following week.

Now I’m more of a binge watcher of new material.  I enjoy the luxury of not having to wait for the next episode.

But, as one of those old TV shows comes up, I am absolutely drawn in for a peak. Not so much for the story but because it is like a little time traveling.

A star trek episodes that sticks in may mind ... as Kirk and crew were planning a visit to earth, someone said "Wait, they use money on earth. You will need to take some." Who ever thought there was an alternative?

So many good shows back then. It's been said, my first word was Batman while watching the show.

We watched an episode recently and let’s just say it’s lack of connection to reality was much more evident to me now.

Bonanza was our family viewing appointment every Sunday night. On a then-mammoth color tube TV that my father came home with one morning after an all-night poker game.
