A Hug

Based upon a true story.
At a doctors appointment, you are escorted in by a rushed medical assistant who is tasked with the preliminaries before you are seen by the doctor. There is a sense of anxiety in the air. You are anxious - after all, you are at a doctor’s office. And the assistant is adding to the anxiety. A sense of pressure. A tone.
Just uncomfortable and adding to your anxiety.
And what do you do?
You say to the assistant, “I think you need a hug!”
All of a sudden, the anxiety leaves the room. There is a smile. The interaction changes. The roles alter. A sense of humanity.
So, when you sense anxiety coming from another, reach out and give a hug.

Given my experience with Weill Cornell this past year - I would instead say I want you to tell me everything you are entering into the record and what your notes say since I need to know you have actually heard what I said

Great story - not sure I would offer a hug but reaching out human to human in any interaction is something that is often overlooked. I like to use a little humor or a complement to break the ice.
