Has anyone else noticed that “of course” has become the new form of “you’re welcome”?  Thank you is now often met with “of course”.

 

Thank you for picking up dinner — “of course!”.    Thanks so much for helping me with that project — “of course!”.  Thanks so much for making me laugh — “of course!”.  You get the drift. 

 

To be honest, I find myself “of coursing” now too.  It just feels like a more affirmative way to show appreciation.  That said, I’m pretty sure that some think that “you’re welcome” has not seen its last day in the world of expressing gratitude.

 

Have you noticed this linguistic transition in motion?

Of course!! Actually I have been using it a lot. Didn't realize how much until this blog.

Yes! That and also when you say “sorry!” the response is often “you’re good!”
