The Handwritten Note

Categories

Here was the discussion in my house – and hint, it split down generational lines.  Of course, when someone sends you a gift, a thank you note is called for.  It is just a small way to show appreciation for someone who took the time to think about you.

Under what circumstances is a handwritten thank you note required, and when will a text or email fill the need?

Suffice it to say that there was not unanimity of opinion in this discussion.

Where do you come down on this question?

I stopped sending handwritten notes about 3 years ago - pre-covid. The only time I use them is if I send a gift personally. The only letters or cards I write these days are to the grands.

Tough one. I think it depends on the size of the gift and event given. For example, if someone sends me a Holiday gift, a text or email thank you is fine. If its a Birthday or Anniversary milestone, I might send a handwritten note.

Funny, I'm not sure I agree that it is always the best. Sometimes a quick thank you is called for . But I do agree that wherever appropriate it is a nice touch.

When appropriate, a handwritten note speaks volumes and can leave a lasting impression. Some advisers make it a part of their practice. I am not one. But a cyber thank you always.

I send a handwritten note with a gift to people who refer business to us. Try me! Robert

I don't really look for either, I just want to know that the gift was rec'd. My nephew's wife will sometimes text me a thank you...other times..radio silence. It stresses me out because all I want to know--is if it was rec'd. I'm trying very hard to understand.
