Last Sunday we pulled into a restaurant near closing time for a late supper and I noticed an extraordinary thing. The whole waitstaff, even after working a long weekend shift, was all smiling and eager to serve.

I can’t explain it, but either there was something in the air or management found the secret to customer satisfaction.

What I do know is that it reminded me that a smile is a potent Super Power!

A smile makes young people notice otherwise invisible seniors (ever notice how old folks lead with a smile as they enter a room).

A smile makes you look your best and feel good too!

I have learned that when all else fails, when in pain (or suffering a side stitch running a marathon) just smile.

As Charlie Chaplin wrote and Nat King Cole sang:

Smiling uses far fewer muscles in the face than frowning. It is far easier to smile and won't wrinkle your face. So Smile!

Love it! Now I’m smiling! One of my favorite quotes: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Dr. Seuss
