Jinx

There are thoughts I think which I would never say out loud for fear of Bad Luck or jinxing myself.

Where does superstition and the above type of fear spring from?

I think it was my mother and all her “Do Nots”, eg, never leave a hat on a bed or walk under a ladder.  Thanks for the advice mom!

Whatever the root cause, I am it’s captive.  You would be very surprised with all my mishugas, eg, I can’t bike over a manhole cover or stop until I reach my destination.

It’s day in and day out madness!  Maybe I’m OCD…

Well ….. OCD does play into it- ha ha ha. Any productive person has a certain amount. It’s a way we think we’ can control our fate. Knock on wood to dispel any evil spirits when you say some particularly good about something. Jews have several against the evil eye.
Sadly …… we don’t control our destiny - but by doing all the mishugane rituals it makes us think we do. Hey …. Whatever gets you through the day :0)

I am OCD and have plenty of superstitions. Especially when watching a favorite team play.

Salt over the shoulder, knock on wood, no hats on beds, don’t write in red ink, AND DON’T TALK ABOUT A NO HITTER UNTIL AT LEAST THE 7th INNING!

I was struck by Poo-Poo-Poo! My mother used to say that to me. What does it mean? She is long gone and I never asked her.

I looked it up RitaSue, and the derivation is apparently spitting three times for good luck! Lol. Part of the whole “keeping away the evil eye” ritual. As in, don’t tempt fate by looking too happy. My grandmother used to say it too.

We say poo-poo-poo after saying anything good about a loved one

I never want to talk about winning business until a deal is done and the client has given me their final signature.
