A Change in Plans

There’s an expression in Yiddish to the effect that “ Man plans and God laughs”. In these times, I think the expression could be “Man plans and Covid laughs”.
And so it was as our extended family planned for the return to the traditional in person Seder that had been so evasive over the last two years. All vaxxed and ready to test.
And there was a dinner. A week before the Seder. A dinner to celebrate our sister in law’s birthday. A celebration that had also gone uncelebrated for two years.
And we enjoyed dinner - our first together in so long. And we talked about the Seder- less than a week away. It would be good.
And then Covid struck. First my brother in law. The in person Seder was on increasingly shaky grounds. As we all fell - like dominoes - the in person Seder became a dream evaporated.
Man plans and Covid laughs.

No laughing matter to be sure. Let's hope for many family meals will be enjoyed in the future.

That’s so disappointing Ben. Glad you all enjoyed the birthday party. More celebrations to come…. My grandmother used to say that all the time. “Man plans, god laughs.” Resilience, flexibility and grit.

Luckier than our Seder. For two hoursn I sat next to a guest who was diagnosed the next day after a sudden fever. Fortunately, I keep a bottle of Maison Beljanski’s anti-viral extract Prostabel. The PRC test once again says I’m clear.
