New Hampshire attempts to go rogue

Amongst all the nuttiness that has been going on, this was news to me. Although not entirely surprising, it did give me pause.

The New Hampshire House voted on a proposal last month that called for the state to secede from the United States. It actually stated the NH “peaceably declares independence from the United States and immediately proceeds as a sovereign nation. All other references to the United States in this constitution, state statutes and regulations are nullified.” Thankfully it did not pass. More than 300 lawmakers voted against it yet 13 voted for it.

This gives new meaning to their motto "Live free or die." Maybe they want to be part of Canada...it's close by.

In other related wackiness, last October, officials representing three Maryland counties wrote to legislative leaders in West Virginia expressing interesting in becoming part of the other state. I wonder which state they wanted to be a part of...Hawaii?

We certainly live in nutty times.

I can see parts of SW NYS seeking to join arms with adjoining PA. The resultant state would be much like W. VA.....

I am from Northern California. All my life there has been discussion about splitting the State a la the Carolinas and Dakotas.
The emotional hitch was Who Gets Big Sur. The financial hitch was Hollywood produces the highest income. (Then we "won" that argument because of Silicon Valley).
In the end, like Real Californians, we retire the argument on an annual basis.

And this is why Iprefer to live in my own world and unless I am visiting my kids, I prefer not to leave New York.

There was an interesting article in a recent Newsweek about the cost of splitting up. EVERYTHING would go up. These folks are crazy! NH with its own military budget?
