Unmasking

How long do you think we will continue wearing face masks? Even though I am vaccinated, and boosted, I began wearing masks again in public places after the Delta variant surge. My daughter contacted Covid then which made me put the mask back on. Additionally, at the same time, a client contacted two days after she was in my office, when neither of us were wearing masks. She called to let me know that she had   a very severe case of Covid.  I was due to go on vacation in several days and was fearful that I would contract Covid and be unable to go. Several nose swabs later, and with absolutely no signs of having contracted Covid, I was able to go on vacation. But that unmasked experience forced me decide to put a mask on every time a client is in the office, regardless of whether they are vaccinated.

I am hopeful that there will come a day soon when I will feel safe enough to unmask in a public place. But I wonder about airplanes, trains, courthouses etc., where we are still required to wear masks irrespective of our vaccination status.   I was recently in a Banana Republic store and I noticed that they had packages of three masks on clearance. I actually like their masks, the ear loop is adjustable and they have the wire over the nose.  So I purchased two packages of the masks, for a total of six masks.

My husband laughed at me when I brought the masks home telling me that, hopefully, we will be unmasked soon. But I wonder whether wearing masks will be the new normal; whether we will forever be wearing masks in airplanes or trains or when we meet with someone new. What do you think? Will there be a time when we will all be completely and safely unmasked?

If wearing the mask makes you feel more comfortable, then wear the mask! Don’t let people judge you. Do what you want. That said, read the statistics and understand the science of vaccinations, getting Covid and wearing masks to make you fully educated about your decision. And your decision should of course be based on your body, your underlying health conditions and your doctors suggestions.

On the UWS masks are still required indoors and most people follow the rules. I wear my mask out of respect for those who worry and because I do not want to pass along the virus if I have it. It's not a big deal. I assume we will use them to varying degrees well into the future.

I'm way more comfortable wearing my mask inside, especially around people I don't know and as cases have been ticking up.

Covid is not going anywhere anytime soon unfortunately. I wear when seeing clients and in most stores.

I agree with Paul, wear it if it make you feel safer. Many people from other parts of the world have been wearing masks to filter out smog to protecting themselves for the common cold. One benefit of living in this area, nothing is that surprising and most people don't care what you are wearing or not. So do what makes you happy.

Who would have ever imagined a day when we would have favorite masks? I have some too -- and still wear them.
