Spooky Halloween

Years past, I scheduled the day off every Halloween.  Trick-or-treating was always a highlight. Our neighborhood used to swarm with kids and we loved being part of the swarm.

I remember Jaclyn’s first Halloween.  We literally had to teach her how to trick-or treat.  She thought the idea was that after collecting candy from a house, she was supposed to sit and the stoop and partake.  After we did that for a few houses, we knew a lesson was in order.

How times have changed.  Our neighborhood is now swarming with a new generation of kids.   Rather than being part of the swarm, we are now on the other side of the basket of candy having way too much fun with the ghosts, goblins, princesses, Baby Shark, scarecrow, pirates and more.

We still have spooky Halloween decorations that come out every year.  The bloody arm still makes me jump. Those decorations are back on their shelf until next year when we start all over again.

Happy Halloween.

Always my favorite event as a kid. Now it's more of an estimating game to try and the right amount of candy to give out and not too much left over that I will tempted to eat. Yes, times have changed from the recipient to the giver.

I haven't been a fan of Holloween since bad kids defaced my new P coat in elementary school and I could not rub off the chalk. I have been asked what I do about the kids who come asking for candy at my house, but here in my pandemic hideaway, there are no kids, as no one can see our house from the road.

I was never a fan - not even as a kid. When my kids were little I did what I had to do and now I am happy it comes and goes with little notice on my part. We have no trick or treaters! Interestingly one son and his kids don't care much one way or the other. The other son and his kids treat it as the most important holiday of the year. The Holloween photo becomes the winter holiday card! Now on the Thanksgiving!

I actually don't remember enjoying Halloween all that much as a kid. My favorite Halloween recollection is when my son was little, he would gather his friends and they would trick or treat for my favorite candy and bring me back a boatload of Three Musketeers.
