Temperatures Falling

With temperatures falling, I wonder whether it’s time to go inside.
Like many people, over the past year and a half we have been reluctant to eat inside restaurants and have been dining out outside.
Exercise has been a challenge and we have not been inside a gym. Walking has been the major exercise escape and we’ve enjoyed the outside tent and equipment at the Y.
I’m back at the office a few days a week and been inside a small theater with fully vaccinated others only twice - no Broadway yet.
But I come back to restaurants and the gym. As temperatures go down, what to do?

I went inside to the gym for first time yesterday. Half of people were wearing masks. I stayed in an isolated area.

Please Odey, no offense, but I just don’t understand this thinking. On the very LOW end of estimates, and I have read a bunch, the chances are 1 in 13,000 of a breakthrough case (getting Covid after vaccination) needing hospitalization. If you have no SERIOUS underlying health issues, your odds would increase greatly from there. This is equal to or better than the seasonal flu. Doesn’t that justify just going out and living your life? Personally, I think that breakthrough cases are EXTREMELY underreported. I believe that in the next couple of years that the vast majority of people will get mild cases of Covid whether vaccinated or not. If you have serious underlying health issues, you should of course consult with your doctor, but otherwise go enjoy your life!

I am in agreement with Paul's views here. Today, where we go / what we do is all about COVID risk mitigation but the risks are minimal. A COVID antibody is also an option that can tell you if you have a strong resistance to the virus (fortunately my test showed I am full of antibodies).

Very interesting Dominick. I have been trying to research antibody tests. What do the numbers mean? Where did you get your test? What kind was it? This is so valuable for people considering booster shots.

I do not belong to any gyms. I have not been to Broadway or a movie theater for that matter. All of this more out of lack of time, convenience or cost, not Covid. Like Paul above, it's time to enjoy life. I fly fairly frequently to Florida. The plane is backed like sardines (Jim Breuer refers to this as being in a tube). I wear my mask and sanitize my seat. But that is it. I don't think twice about it. Be careful, but live.

I have been teaching inside (three hour classes) throughout the summer and fall. CDC protocols don’t require New York State universities to socially distance, so the classrooms are full. It seems like the students are happy to be back, and I know I am. Some students are vaccinated some are not. I had both shots last February/March, and things have been fine. I do know some people who have gotten breakthrough cases and they have been comparable to colds. We have also eaten in restaurants - inside, gone to concerts, etc. Outside of the boroughs, there are no vaccination requirements for restaurants, and they have been busy. It’s been nice. I think this is a personal decision based on risk tolerance and individual health. It would be nice if people talked about immunity and antibody tests as I think this would ease a lot of fear. I loved seeing everyone at the golf outing - personally, I see numbers dropping everywhere now and I feel comfortable getting back to normal. Looking forward to breaking bread and raising a glass. :))

Slowly but surely, getting back. Age and health are a factor in people's decisions. I have Been to theaters for movies, (matinees so far with small crowds) and bought tickets for concert at Jazz at LIncoln Center next month.
