Is Bigger Better? For Me it Was!

The news from the Box Office for Movie Theaters is improving.  For each of the last 3 weeks, the 100 million dollar mark was hit for the first time since Covid shut down the in-person movie business.  People have been heading to the movies to see James Bond in No Time to Die. The scary Halloween Kills and Marvel’s Venom did very well, too.

I wanted to see how a movie on the 55 inch at home measured up on the huge screen. In the past, the usual routine was to see a movie at the theater and if you liked it you would watch it again on HBO or rent the DVD.  It was enjoyable to relive the movie at home.

This time I reversed the process, I watched The Many Saints of Newark (Sopranos Prequel) on HBO Max.  Then, I went for a matinee at my local theater.  (I was the only one there.)  Seeing the scenes unfold on the huge screen made the movie come alive for me, even more. One of the climatic scenes, set at the ocean, was incredibly beautiful and depicted the work of the cinematographer perfectly.  The music sounded even better with the powerful speakers.

Last year was the at home movie year.  I saw Nomadland, Minari, One Night In Miami and many more good ones at home. I look forward to seeing some of them at a theater one day.

What movie did you enjoy, so much, at home that you wish you could see on the Big Screen?

Any action movie is usually better on a big screen. But since Covid, I have not ventured out to the movies.not a fan of the crowd talking over the dialogue either.
Shelley Simpson

I don't enjoy movie theaters. The a/c is too high and the sound is too loud. I am thrilled that I can get my popcorn and watch movies on the computer.
Cynthia Somma

I enjoy the theater more than being home (less distractions) and one of my favorite restaurants is nearby. The last movie I saw on the big screen was The Joker. Would not have been the same @ home.
Stephen Redford

I have to comment by using your sly provocative title: Yes, Bigger is Better! Cinematography is an artform and not created for small screens. When you watch a film on TV you are literally missing large elements of the artwork. I love Science Fiction and cannot image Star Wars, Star Trek, Blade Runner, even the Wizard of Oz on the small screen. I'm really looking forward to Dune coming out Oct 22. See it on the big screen!

Nice to hear Stephen and Cynthia agree that the Theater is the way to appreciate movies. Dune on my list, too. Crowded theaters as Daniel noted can be an issue with a non-movie obsessed crowd. Shelley finds her way of fun at home! So Fred likes to go to theaters for his movies and stays at home to watch streaming shows.
