Friends in Falmouth

On our way for a week on Martha’s Vineyard. It’s been two years since our last visit.
There’s a lovely French patisserie in Falmouth, Massachusetts, the town where we’ll spend a night before taking the ferry to MV. The patisserie is a great place to enjoy a morning pastry and coffee.
Last time we were in Falmouth - in August of 2019 - we walked out of the patisserie with pastry and coffee in hand looking for a table on the sidewalk outside.
“Come join us” was the invitation from a woman and her husband who were sitting outside with two empty seats at their little table.
And so began our relationship with Arlene and Nat, a retired couple who live in Falmouth. After a morning coffee that lasted much longer than we had ever planned, Flo and I promised to keep in touch and see them “next year” when we returned to Falmouth. Flo and Arlene kept in touch through the most-current methods of interpersonal communication. And then came Covid. No Falmouth last summer. Only one of many changes in plans and disruptions of routines.
We are planning a lovely dinner with Arlene and Nat. Hopefully I will always cherish it as the first of many traditions that will be re-established as we attempt a return to normalcy.
