Sushi or No Sushi?

My blog today is a simple one, are you or are you not a sushi person? It has been my experience that most people either love it or hate it.

I am a sushi person. When I was twelve, my Dad spent a month in Japan. When he came home he excitedly told us that he had to introduce us to sushi. It sounded so weird and exotic then. There were only two restaurants that it served it on Long Island, one in Rockville Center and the other in Greenvale. From the moment I tasted sushi,  I loved it.

The sushi experience was a very different experience when I was first introduced to sushi. Serving sushi was a serious form of art.  Chefs had different levels of expertise, which was reflected by the band on their hat. Sushi was beautifully presented,  simple raw fish. There were no rolls, hand helds or spicy mayo infused fish. My Dad would say that a spicy tuna roll is just not sushi.

Sushi, yes or no? And if yes, how do you like it?

Lox! I know, it's smoked, but still, it is not far off. These days I am selective on where I consume raw fish and I don't do it often. That said, when done properly, it is DELISH!

We are fans. Love sashimi and I admit, I do love all the “fixins” ginger, spicy mayo, rolls…..

Sushi & sashimi. Low healthy fat, high. protein and so full of flavor. Definitely only from reputable sources and never on a Sunday.

I do like sushi, but must be fresh. I am very aware when not quite right. Texture, taste and scent will determine if good or not. I can it straight or in a roll. It's all good if good sushi to begin with.
