The Game that mattered not at all

It was suggested midweek that this blog cover something that becomes official tomorrow but it makes sense to share that in a subsequent commentary. I prefer to share something that never occurred with me and a baseball game. Last Tuesday, we stayed for the entire game despite the home team – my beloved team – not likely at all to rally to victory.

We opted not to beat the traffic. We remained the entire time. If you followed me on twitter, you viewed my upset about aspects of that game. I criticized personnel decisions going into that game. I questioned the lineup and in-game moves. One brother labeled the evening “Fan UnAppreciation Night.” No disagreement here.

We attended that eve because my youngest brother, Robby, came in from out of town – he lives in Portland, OR and I got us tickets to that game. Shelly and I attended with our daughter, Marisa. Robby attended with his galfriend, Jen. Brother Richy who lives and works in Brooklyn rounded out our half-dozen.

We endured – perhaps ignored at times – the game as we family socialized. We stayed through very end catching up, discussing, sharing some family news.

All in all we enjoyed each others company and game became the vehicle that brought us together for moments in time.

Still I prefer games when my team win. Hopefully the case when I attend with my daughter in a couple of weeks and when Shelly and I attend, again joined by Marisa, with our few hundred of our closest friends next month.

At least we both share really good former Cubs!

We too did a family and a friend game with similar outcome last Saturday. Enjoyed the night game at Citi-field to very end. The Blue Jays clobbered the Mets that night, but being together as a group was the reason the night was special.

Events, good or bad, are better when shared with family and friends.

Being at a Baseball game is a perfect way catch up with friends and family.

I have wonderful memories of days spent at Detroit Tiger games when the kids were little. And they have little, if anything, to do with the team or even the game. It sounds as though your reunion was a home run!

Was there as well, and questioned several managerial moves also. The game did not have to get away from them the way it did.
