Opportunity Knocks

When I first learned that my fanfav Aaron Judge and 9 other Yankee teammates would be sidelined for 10 days for testing positive for Covid I was crestfallen. Seriously dim viewed!

But, as usual, my time tested adage “Up is down and down is up” proved true as the Yankees dipped into their minor league system for replacements and some, if not all, saw that opportunity knocks and seized on their chance and knocked it out of the park!

I am so pleased with these younger, faster and more eager pinstripers that I’m excited in a new/old way.

There is a great lesson here for all of us: keep your eyes open, see an opportunity and pounce!  Don’t vacillate, see and seize the momentary opening that is presented.

I know, as a classic example, Lou Gehrig did when Wally Pipp had a headache.

PS I wonder if Aaron Judge was vaccinated…

Seeing opportunities rather than obstacles and possibilities instead of problems is a skill that requires practice. I'd like to know if he was vaccinated or not - the answer and the thought process are part of the data that we need in order to deal with this and future pandemics.

We won’t really know for generations…

An important lesson from baseball. Everyone should have a farm system. What’s yours?

The young are our future, until they move on ( or get traded) as in the case in so many examples.

I understand the point of view of being young and healthy and not getting vaccinated because you believe that the risks of getting seriously ill are less than the potential side affects of the vaccine. I understand and respect that. However, you should also respect that someone is paying your salary and a team is depending on you. If you feel that strongly about it, don’t take your salary if you get tested positive. And you should also go to your teammates, explain your point of view, and ask for their understanding. To me, it is very similar to not playing on a religious holiday. I may not agree with it, but I totally respect your point of view. But there are big consequences.

I totally agree! When asked if he was vaccinated Judge responded that he didn’t want to go there which says a lot nonetheless. I have lost respect for him :(

I’m OK with him not speaking out about it. Cole Beasley from the Bills has brought his opinions on Twitter. I think it’s great to have opinions of course, but when it detracts from what the team is trying to accomplish, that’s where I turn off.

NFL seems to be taking a stronger line than MLB. Manfred a wimp? Safety Matters!

Vaccination doesn't appear to be making much of difference with respect to catching the disease. My daughter-fully vaccinated-tested positive on Thursday.
