The routine

We all have routines. At some level they're comforting and at the same time can cause stress. This morning I observed mine.

I woke up at 5A (it's usually around 5 - 5:30A), grabbed my phone to see if there any emergencies like a typo in someone's blog. I sauntered (yes saunter) downstairs, selected and ground some beans to make coffee in my french press. At any given time I have 3 or 4 different types of coffee to select from. Today it was Kona coffee from Hawaii, Vera from California and Founders from Brooklyn (I'm a worldy coffee drinking man:).

Then I cracked my computer and sorted through 126 emails (light morning, it's usually around 200) I received overnight. Barring some emergencies, I performed my daily Webmaster duties, removing spam from the listservs, hopefully solving some member issues, and answering technical questions. Oh yea..then I write this blog

I too get up at 5:00 and before 6:00 check for your blog to set it up and mine was still up. I have traveled most of day and thanks for the reminder. Maybe you should alter your routine and put blog up first :)

I too have a morning routine that starts at 5:30 am. It does not include looking at my phone until I have been up 30 minutes getting mentally prepared for the day. After 30 minutes, the routine is to make my smoothie, listen to Darren Hardy, read the Stoics, and then it's time to get dressed and get to work. There's comfort in having a routine.

I too have a routine. I go to the bathroom every morning at 5AM. Unfortunately I don’t wake up until 6

I prefer no routine even if I follow one. "Processing" mail and the news early often plays a part; calling client's and colleague's attention to certain news items remains important; and being prepared to pivot to some quick messaging and/or advice makes the routine anything but routine, and a fun "challenge."

I wish I could sleep later, but my head wakes me at around 5:30 and usually starts the stressful roll of the pending to do's for the day. Bathroom, shower and shave and right to the tablet or phone to see what is waiting on my in box. I am hoping to get some walk time time in as the weather improves.

Oh, you early risers! I prefer to stay up late :) But not so late as to go to bed by 5.30 :)
