Cicadas

I am waiting, patiently, for the cicadas.
There is much written about the pending invasion, and I wait.
As the ground warms up, the time of their expected emergence approaches. Our son in Alexandria Virginia- where it is a little warmer- has already shared pictures of the creatures.
Although we see some every season, this year will be different with the great seventeen year cycle. The noise, the little crunching carcasses everywhere. It will be annoying.
But most of all, it is a reminder to me of a cycle of life, a dominance of nature. And, perhaps, our place in the whole scheme.
