The Question

“Are you vaccinated?” Is that the question that you can, or can’t, ask?
Lawyers are struggling with the question in several contexts and it has become a political football. But I’m talking about you and me.
It seems to me that unless someone is vaccinated, I need to be as protective of myself and cautious with respect to that person as I was in the darkest days of the pandemic.
So it’s a fair question and I’ll ask it in personal situations. If anyone is offended, let them deal with it and I’ll act appropriately.

Yes and I have a laminated card to prove it!

Slippery slope at work, but I can see wanting to know. Yes, I am and not afraid to say so. But I respect those that don't and that is why we must remain aware and careful when in public.

I think it’s a completely legitimate question socially, legal ramifications aside. (Either that or did you have it and how long ago, because then there are antibodies). If the answer is “yes, both shots more than two weeks ago” then masks off (!!!) and let’s have dinner!

There is a fine line between HIPPA laws and public safety on this one.

There are reasons why people will not or cannot vaccinate and those I know in that category are just as concerned about protecting themselves from the virus as we are. I don't think they will mind being asked and they will understand not being invited to socialize. It's important for us to all avoid being judgmental - it's not healthy.

you shouldn't have laminated it... in case of a booster, it will be harder to note. But there's also a NYS Empire Pass that has the info. You should make sure that the vaccination is reported in NYS.

Couldn’t agree more. Given the unstable nature of these RNA viruses, one can’t be too cautious. No Broadway, restaurants or BAU for me despite my vaccination. Stay safe!
