Driving last night, Safe At Home played on my A Good Feeling To Know Radio station on Apple Music. Interestingly, that Souther Hillman Furay tune that opened side two of the original vinyl served as the title of the blog a year ago today.

Right after, came Pure Prairie League’s Two Lane Highway. It made me wonder if my Songs of the Road playlist included that song. It did not! Wondered how that happened.

I actually did a search of “highway” on that play list. The third and fourth tunes were respectively,

Mystic Highway – John Fogerty and

Rockin’ Down The Highway – The Doobie Brothers.

There were six in all, the others being,

The New Lee Highway Blues – David Bromberg

Take The Highway (live) – Marshall Tucker Band

Roll On Down The Highway – Bachman Turner Overdrive and

Key to the Highway – Derek and the Dominos

I searched my song collection to see if I left any other tune with “highway” in the title off the list.

I found I also left off so many tunes in my collection that I surmised I never searched “highway.”

So now the list grows:

Deep Purple Highway Star (from Made in Japan)

The Doors Queen of the Highway

Bob Dylan Highway 61 Revisited

Free The Highway Song, off the aptly name “Highway” LP.

Hot Tuna Highway Song

and Keep on Trucking both from “Burgers” (featuring neat fiddle playing by Papa John Creach)

Roger McGuinn Dixie Highway, off the “Thunderbyrd LP (the same LP has Roger’s version of Tom Petty’s American Girl and Peter Frampton’s All Night Long)

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Kings Highway

Bruce Springsteen Working on the Highway

America Ventura Highway

Neil Young Human Highway

and with Crazy Horse, Changing Highways off Broken Arrow.

And that also involved determining exactly where to place each of the above.

All because I heard a song that is perhaps my fave by Pure Prairie League (“Amy” might be the better known song).

I have a road trip just in mind for this now updated list.

I can think of several Alman Brothers tunes that make for great driving as well. Good list as always.

That's the thing about music ... it can effect a trip down memory lane or in your case memory highway.

Norm,
You failed to review the list. I posted the Stones’ cover.

Great music on car rides is perfect. But, riding to a concert with a playlist, now that is the ultimate.

Don't forget Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane. The title says it ALL!.
Corey Bearak

Okey, you need to share the link. All music on the list I “own”.
Rona Gura

I thought you had left out Ventura Highway but you didn't. You never disappoint!!!!

Endless Highway -- The Band
and, depending on how your trip goes, Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Alan Kreit (NMLS ID 690784)

Anything by The Band, for a long drive. The new remastered album Stage Fright is outstanding.
Corey Bearak

The Band was considered; it requires further listens. Do not “own” ANY AC/DC. Not sure I ever listened to that song ever start to finish.

A list of LPs to consider was old style. I cerainly have my choices but curating playlists remains something I enjoy.

AC/DC Highway to Hell.

Steve, Mike Steger above also raised it. As I replied to Mike, “Do not “own” ANY AC/DC. Not sure I ever listened to that song ever start to finish.”
