Making the Decision

Categories
Lifestyle

I suddenly realized last week that I have been back at the office full time for about six weeks now. It was not a decision I made consciously. Rather it happened organically.

Six weeks ago, I started a virtual trial that lasted three weeks. During the trial I found it easier to work from the office. After the trial was concluded, about three weeks ago, I just continued working in the office.

During the shutdown, I had expected that the decision to return to the office full time would be a carefully weighted and considered decision. But, for me, that is not, at all, the way the decision was made. It just happened.

Have you returned to the office full time? How did you make the decision. If you are not back at the office what will be your criteria for returning?

I never fully left & have been back full time since June. The office staff has been full time since Sept. It is difficult to build office space remotely.

I am more productive at the office (unless there are many others there as well), but the commute out east which is an hour or so drive each way, just keeps me working from home most days. I try to go in once or twice a week.

I have been home based for almost 14 years and love it. Being homebound is not so good so I am looking forward to doing business in bars and restaurants again. Not all the time but some of the time. Glad you didn't have angst over your re-entry.

My husband is a chiropractor and he only shut down for two weeks. Only because his partner had Covid early on.

I am better on the client contact stuff, phone calls and court conferences in the office. I am better on the project based stuff like writing agreements, briefs etc where I need a chunk of time, at home.

My personal return to the office sounds much like yours Rona. I find I'm more productive, and comfortable, at my office. Since my drive is short the commute was never the issue. But I'm here alone unlike the team of 3-4+ we used to be. I only have one other FT person working remotely and that's mostly because she has two kids doing school virtually. Most of my clients only have skeleton staff in their offices which means I still have a great deal less Temp staff working and very few have hired new staff...so income is still drastically down. I hope by summer we can be back to more 'normal' staffing levels both in my office and at my clients. Tom I commend you for having your staff back since Sept. and being able to do so safely.
